Some of the best-known cheeses on the planet are produced here, like Camembert, Roquefort, Brie, and the Caprice des Dieux and Raclette, among others. In total, there are over 400 varieties. Created from milk, the cheeses were often produced at home. Some of these houses also operated as bistros during the Second World War, when the men went into battle, and the women had to work to supplement their income by opening their homes to the public to sell homemade meals.
